E-business course scheduled in Ogallala

OGALLALA, Neb. – A class designed to help small businesses understand the concept of having an online presence will begin at 6 p.m. on July 1, 2008, said University of Nebraska–Lincoln Extension Educator Connie Hancock.

The classes will meet for three hours, 6-9 p.m., Tuesdays for four weeks, Hancock said.

“There’s so much information out there about the Internet and doing business on the Internet, that we try to provide some knowledge about how to make the right decisions regarding such things as how to use the Internet and who should design their Websites,” Hancock said.

Previous participants have included people from retail businesses, people with ideas who won’t quite know how to get started, service businesses and some brick-and-mortar stores that want to expand.

The classes start with some discussion of what customers are doing online and what the competition’s doing. Recognition of Internet trends from global as well as local perspectives can help participants identify what an online presence can do for their businesses.

“We get into site design, not so much how to do it as to recognize good design, what works well and navigation,” Hancock said. “We get into some online marketing strategies.”

Participants learn how to make sure the search engines find their sites.

The 12-hour class costs $99.

Registration deadline is June 24, one week before classes start, Hancock said. To register, contact the Keith County Extension Office in Ogallala or go to: cariregistration.unl.edu.
