Saner returns to North Platte as an Extension Educator
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – Randy Saner liked working for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in North Platte, Neb. so much, he found a way to return after 15 years.
Saner worked as a research technician in the swine operation at the West Central Research and Extension Center for eight years. At the same time he earned his Master of Science degree in monogastric nutrition. Before his time in North Platte, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in animal science and agriculture education from UNL.
His children were born in North Platte, he said, and that’s one of the reasons he and his wife wanted to return.
Since leaving North Platte, Saner has worked 15 years as an Extension Livestock Specialist for the University of Missouri in West Plains. It’s a large cow-calf area, fourth largest numbers in the state, he said. There he did a lot of programming focused on beef production. He also worked with sheep, goats and horses.
Here in Nebraska, his area will be livestock systems. He expects to work with producers and other educators throughout the district on livestock education.
He expects to be involved with 4-H and youth and such existing programs as the Ranch Practicum and the Beef-Forage Systems Shortcourse, as well as some feed programming to help reduce the high cost of feeding livestock.
